AUTUMN

I like autumn.
The drama of it;
the golden lion roaring through the back door of the year
shaking its mane of leaves. - Joanne Harris

IB JEWELLERY

IB Jewellery is designed by Ingelin Barstad, who has just recently moved to Budapest, Hungary from her home Oslo, Norway. We've clicked over our love of fashion and design and decided to shoot a look book for her new jewellery collection. The sterling silver rings and bracelets are beautiful, wearable designs meant for accompanying your daily look.

How did you become interested in jewellery design? How did you start?

I have been interested in design since an early age. I started making jewellery and clothes from things I found around. A few years ago, I decided to really try and make something people would actually wear. For me, the quality is key as I want the pieces to live and not to be tossed away after a season.

What is the inspiration behind your collection? Which materials do you use?

I found inspiration in old men's signet rings as my grand-dad had these and I have always liked the style. The second style is inspired from vintage Mexican jewellery, which I find interesting and beautiful. The rings and bracelets are made of 925 silver with oxidized details and the reason for choosing this silver is that it will keep nicer than many other materials. I want these pieces to feel like a part of your every day wardrobe rather than something you would wear only once in a while.

What challenges have you faced with starting up this new line?

I'm in the very start up phase and for now the biggest challenges has been getting the products to look exactly how I pictured them in my mind. I'm not a very technical person, so the web page and shop start up has been difficult. The challenge now is the actual branding and selling. This is my baby and I know I will need thick skin as I will receive positive and negative feedback along the way. I feel like I am going to be selling a part of my self and my identity and it feels quite intimate.

What song do you have on repeat right now?

SHOES OFF

Shoes on. Position. Shoot: Shoes in the bed?

Am I the only one who finds this 'trend' is disgusting? I was raised to take my shoes off the moment I entered my house and the Polish papcie -slippers- immediately went on. I guess when your shoes are new and you want to 'break them in' and then you decide to take a few shoesies (shoe selfies?) and be artistic and all it is different... is it that different? ... I can't imagine walking around the city and then putting my feet in my sheets. Why is this trend so evident on Tumblr?

FALL INSPIRATION

You can never go wrong with a Valentino cashmere knit paired with a pin stripe trouser and over sized coat. Budapest is quite a 'casual' city and I normally find myself overdressed for most events, however, this city chic set would be work appropriate, for strolling around galleries or going out with friends. Happy weekend!

(R)EVOLUTION 360°

Happy 10th anniversary to Hungarian fashion label USEunused! The trio of designers are celebrating their 10th birthday with the opening of a beautiful pop up shop on Sas utca 16, where you can find the latest A/W 2015 collection. Just a few steps away, you can divulge into the best selected pieces from the past 10 years from the label. I must add that A/W 2014/15 was one of my favourite USEDunused collections simply because I loved the bright red accent colours and the high waisted purple trousers. Click HERE to see what I'm referring to. A new men's collection was highlighted at the event as well as a special preview of the Spring/Summer 2016 collection; which was inspired by the world of "seas and oceans", specifically the science fiction classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". The underwater realm is replicated into the forms of the designs, in particular the hues and shapes resembling turtles, starfish, sponges and the natural tones of sand. For the first time, the designers are also using appliqued patterns onto the clothing.

The pop up store will be open until September 19th, so head over if you're near the Basilica.

NINE HOMES

In Norse mythology the Yggdrasil is an immense tree that is central in Norse cosmology, which is in connection to where the nine worlds exist. Yggdrasil is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In both sources, Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is central and considered very holy. The gods go to Yggdrasil daily to assemble their things. The branches of Yggdrasil extend far into the heavens and the tree is supported by three roots that extend far away into other locations; one to the well Urðarbrunnr in the heavens, one to the spring Hvergelmir, and another to the well Mímisbrunnr. Creatures live within Yggdrasil, including the wyrm (dragon) Níðhöggr, an unnamed eagle, and the stags Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór.

Nanusha's AW15/16 collection embraces its' inspiration from the mythological story and the designs have found themself in the middle of a place where the mortal and the supernatural meet together. The Nordic cultural details are displayed in the characteristics of the collection, such as the checkered blanket, the fringes, the bell shaped cuffs, high-collared blouses and turtlenecks (my favourites). Colours of chameleon green, natural earth tones, nobel whites, nudes, clay bright orange, lavender and wheat tones appear in the designs, paired with natural fabrics such as cotton, wools and silks.

Find the Autumn/Winter 2015/16 collection at the flagship store on Deak Ferenc utca 17 in Budapest, Hungary. To view the full lookbook, click HERE. Thank you to the Nanusha team for the warm welcome and enjoy the photos from the launch party!

Each collection has a "story piece" which describes the background of the collection. Here, Sandra is explaining to us the story of the Yggdrasil tree, found on the print of this silk tunic. I personally love these pieces and I have a few in my wardrobe from previous collections.
