ELLE Fashion Show 2017 brought Paris and Budapest together once again for an evening of fall fashion for women and men. Parisian designers Mirat Cyril, Shaleva Couture and David Wong all had very different ideas of what personal style means to them. MC featured men in gold body chains and faces covered in black studded masks, representing the faces we decide to show to others and which we decide to hide. Shaleva Couture reminds us of the Harajuku girls from Japan with massive bows on top of a head full of curls. Porcelain dolls in an Alice in Wonderland inspired collection, adorned with pearls, beads and flowers from the garden. David Wong's collection showed off the modern man and that street style can be tailored. This year's event took place at Millenaris and started off with an acrobatic show, illuminated by changing lights and music. Take a look and check out the photos from Modern Revival. Most exciting 'thing' on the runway? A robot carrying a handbag from the Sophie by Chance collection!
Each of the masks represents a different emotion, a face behind which we hide and each mask has the promise of a kind of emotion. The models looked strong and enthusiastic walking down the runway with their faces hidden.
The inspiration behind this collection was the Disney cartoon, Alice in Wonderland and the details in the story. For example, the ruffles flowers and layers of Alice's cake. Designer, Dusica Petit mentioned that as a child she spent a lot of time watching cartoons with her father, and this collection is remembering him. This collection is a combination of being a kid whilst staying elegant and modern.
Two worlds are reunited in this collection: the world of those who love to travel and be immersed in various cultures and those who live far from their homes. The main source of inspiration comes from the diversity from around the world and this is a personal representation of the designers as they are Chinese, living in Holland and having grown up in France and also living abroad in England and the USA. Perhaps these elements are understood and can be related to by many of us who have connections to different backgrounds and cultures.
