Belvedere Palace

It was a bit of a cool and cloudy day for our second day in Vienna, but we didn't let the weather stop us. My friend Olivia and I visited the Belvedere Palace, walked around the grounds and through the gardens - didn't get too wet from the pitter patter of the rain but it was a bit chilier! (+10 degrees Celcius). The palace is absolutely beautiful and it's incredible to think that people actually used to live here! There are two palace buildings (photos are of the Upper palace and the other is known as the Lower palace) and they are set in a Baroque park landscape in the third district of the city. The Upper Belvedere palace houses the Belvedere museum. The grounds are on a gentle incline and include decorative tiered fountains and cascades, Baroque sculptures, and majestic wrought iron gates. The Baroque palace complex was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. I wouldn't have minded living here at all...

Vienna

The weather has been so glorious here and a weekend getaway was on my mind for the past few weeks. When my friend suggested we go to Vienna, I jumped at the chance to go along with her and her family visiting from Canada to see the beautiful city. I must admit that although this was not my first trip to Austria it was my first trip to Vienna! I know, I know... How is that possible as it is only three hours away by train?! Every time I go to Austria, I end up going to visit other cities about five hours away from Budapest and in particular, the town of Gmunden where my family lives. Either way, it was a wonderful mini vacation and I fell in love with Vienna! Here are some pictures from the trip and the sights. Enjoy!

Happiness

Today is the first day of Spring, Macaron Day and International Happiness Day (everyday should be a happy day!)! A beautiful and wonderful day to celebrate! I've been reflecting with my family and friends on 'what makes us happy' and how we can continue to lead positive lifes and find inspiration in the simple things.
So, here is a list, of some of the things which make me happy ... in no particular order!

1. Macarons, Cupcakes, Cakes and sweets in general.

I got these today from Gelarto Rosa today!

2. Little kids dressed better than me. Just seeing how cute they are puts a smile on my face.

3. Travelling. Enough said.

4. Sunsets. The orange, pinks, purples are so calming and mesmerizing.

This photo is from the time my sister and her bf came to visit and we went to Austria.

5. High ceilings and big windows

6. The view from my window. Budapest, Hungary.

7. Lipsticks from M.A.C. And getting a free lipstick when you return 5 empty containers!

8. Silly little dogs. Especially when they're dressed!

9. Fresh fruit salads in the mornings

10. The lake (back home)

And, of course, the absolute number one that belongs at the very top of this list are my relationships with my family and friends. :)
What makes you happy?

P.S.
Here's a site that's been floating around on my Facebook for a few weeks now and I love the positive message behind it. Can you be happy for 100 days? Take the 'challenge' and sign up HERE

Canadian Designers

I've been posting about various fashion weeks across Europe and do find myself gravitating towards the designers in the EU, but I am also proud of the Canadian designers we have back home and wanted to share my favourites with you! This week it's World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto and there are great designers that are making Canada a more stylish place.

Check out the top 3 Canadian designers who I'm currently inspired by.

Designer: Mikhael Kale
Based in: Toronto, Ontario
Inspiration: Mikhael moved to Milan and interned with DSquared2. He launched his label of functional yet sophisticated women’s wear in 2007 and has since dressed the likes of Jennifer Lopez and BeyoncĂ©. He opened Toronto's Fashion Week this year with studded motorcycle jackets, basic blacks and greys, bright spring-like season (I want to wear these now!) colours and organza dresses.

Designer: Laura Siegel
Based in: Toronto, Ontario
Inspiration: In partnership with the Soko sustainable production facility in Kenya, Siegel focused on natural materials and handcrafted finishes. She mixes bohemian style with elements of safari style with ease. Siegel’s outerwear has natural folds and shapes, as seen in her leather jackets that have shawl collars and asymmetrical hems. The colour scheme and airiness of the materials make the pieces transition easily from a fall to winter season.

Based in: Edmonton, Alberta
Inspiration: Urbanovitch focuses on luxurious and original fabrics, quality and classic shapes with modern twists in her ready to wear collections. Urbanovitch has quickly caught the eye of Canada’s Fashion elite after showing her SS’13 collection at the Mercedes-Benz Startup competition in 2012. She was named as the ‘Top Newcomer’ at World MasterCard Fashion Week’s by the Globe and Mail.
In 2013, Urbanovitch expanded her collections to Italy, designing cozy knitwear in unexpected colors and shapes. She has also recently launched a line of Italian handmade leather handbags.
