From the outside of the building...
Toni & Guy Fashion Week in Budapest is based on the concept of international fashion week series, and the goal is to introduce Hungarian fashion designers to the international fashion industry and public. I would also say that although the fashion designers' collections can not be regularly spotted on the streets of Budapest, there is potential to create an international market and strengthen the position of the designers so they are recognized worldwide. This post is mainly dedicated to the Hungarian fashion designers who were showcased at Toni & Guy Fashion Week Budapest this weekend, but I will include some photos from the S/S'14 collections.
Selected Hungarian designers had showrooms available to the attendees at TGFWB, showcasing their S/S'14 collections. Dora Abodi is one of the designers who is already well recognized in Hungary for her designs. What I love about her clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories is how each collection tells a story in a futuristic baroque style. The embellished tops and dresses, digital prints and beading, precise cuts and hand crafted details make people fall in love with her collections. Dora Abodi is also an ethical designer as she does not use real fur or exotic leather or materials from uncontrolled origins.
Another designer who had a pop up store at the event was Anh Tuan; a Vietnamese Hungarian fashion designer who was born in Hanoi, but has been living in Hungary for more than 20 years now. He has already premiered his collections in London, New York, Prague, Zagreb, Tokyo and Budapest. Anh Tuan uses unique textures and oriental materials such as floss, velvet, hand-woven brocade, lizard leather or pure wool. His luxury bags are embellished by hand-woven ropes and finished off with glittery hardware.

Although these designers did not have a pop up store at the event, this was the first time I was introduced to the Je Suis Belle label. Je Suis Belle designers, Dalma Devenyi and Tibor Kiss, founded their brand in 2005 and since then, it has become one of Hungary's leading fashion houses. Their collaboration with visual arts is eminent in their designs, and they consider traditional techniques and give contemporary frame to folk art. See following post about their runway collection.
What I found intriguing about Je Suis Belle S/S'14 was not only the use of images on the clothing, or the beading up the arms of the models, but the heavy focus on the eye lashes of the models. Take a look here:
The model said it wasn't too heavy - but I beg to differ. (Backstage)
They seemed quite happy carrying around the heavy eyelash designs.
The inside of Palazzo Dorottya not only had designer showrooms, but also comfortable seating arrangements so that attendees could relax in between the shows.

I was also able to get backstage with the Press pass where MAC Cosmetics and Toni & Guy were hard at work prepping the models for each show
