THE WILD COLLECTION

Marcus Goldson is a talented artist from Kenya, Africa who studied Art History and Sculpture in the UK and has lived in Budapest with his wife and two children for over 20 years. He is a friend and coworker of mine and I've enjoyed attending his exhibits and seeing his work around the city in cafes, markets and various art events. His most recent exhibit, titled 'The Wild Collection', was this past Thursday at Brody ArtYard and I attended with friends to check out his special limited edition risograph print series inspired by the wildlife in his native home. Marcus' other works are a true representation of life in the city of Budapest, and each detail in his work is so carefully crafted and planned. His depiction of people and places around Budapest are taken from his neighbourhood, local pub, 'characters' he sees on the bus. Marcus has already collaborated with an author to create an illustrated book titled 'The Magic Tram' and is working on his next book, which is more so intended for adults rather than children.

BRIDGET & OLIVIA SS15 PARTY

Thank you Dora and Timea, designers and owners of Bridget & Olivia for the invite to the Spring/Summer 2015 'Thelma and Louise' presentation. The event was sponsored by Hungaria champagne, Sugar Sweet Shop and Redbull. Designers wore their SS15 pieces, which display the history of flight and friendship as inspired by the 1991 film. Maps of Arizona printed on tees and scarves, imprints of the Grand Canyon and colours inspired by nature and the desert are presented in the new line. This is also the first time the designers have included a collection for men: crisp white shirts with similar prints and photography, t-shirts and shorts. Check out my previous post about the designers and their story HERE. Thanks again for a lovely evening! :)

Yuuhuu for a great deal - Fall/Winter collection was 70% off!! What a steal.. I got the crop top from my previous post, which you can find HERE

LAKE VELENCE

Wrapped up in a big scarf, hair inside the turtleneck and watching the sun set about an hour from Budapest the other evening... Lake Velence is more popular in the summer, but was even more so a family destination during Communist times. Hungarians mainly travel to Lake Balaton or abroad and this Lake has become a bit 'unkempt' over the years. However, it is still a beautiful destination and the colours in the sky look as if they were painted with a brush.

RAYAN CLOTHING

Rayan is an urban clothing store which sells everything from jewelry to cell phone cases, watches, hats and t-shirts with fun logos and sweatshirts with country names and codes (36 represents the phone code for Hungary). I stopped by to take some photos of their showroom and take a look around at what they had to offer. Lots of things were on sale and prices for logo t-shirts were as low as 2000-3000 HUF (approx 10 Euros). Many products are also available online (link at the bottom of this post) and the new collection, which will be debuted at Friday's fashion event (details below) were not out on display in the showroom.

"What's the idea behind using the designer acronyms, such as YSL? It is a polite way of mocking high fashion?" -Me
"Yes, it is a street style way of mocking brand labels and big designers that lots of people want to wear and is a way of poking a bit of fun."
-Hamid Kazemi, Founder of Rayan

Instead of YSL standing for Yves Saint Laurent, the designers chose to use it as an acronym for Your Life Sucks. Not caring about the labels you wear definitely speaks loudly from these designs, and expressing joy for living in the beautiful city of Budapest is evident on the images used on the t-shirts. Rayan Clothing is definitely a place to grab some casual (and dressy clothing can be found online) pieces and pair them with your sweats or with jeans for a more urban look. See you at the fashion event on Friday! :)

Rayan Clothing is hosting a fashion event this coming Friday, February 6th ... join at MIX Club and check the event details HERE
